Rainmeter is a program that allows you "full" desktop customisation. Which means that you can get a really cool desktop for your PC or laptop, Mac or Windows, free of charge.

Things such as remaining battery life, CPU usage, hard drive usage, direct shortcuts in a cool style...
You can pretty much do anything.
Note that if you do not have much skill in programming, the program is still very easy to use as you can easily install someone else's theme. (well it's what they upload it for).
